A renovated townhouse seen through its doorways.
Casa Lume Arquitetos renovated a narrow nineteenth-century townhouse in the historic centre of Porto. The architects asked for photographs that showed how rooms connect rather than how each room looks on its own.
Challenge
The house is only four metres wide, with deep rooms and very little direct light. Wide-angle lenses distorted the proportions the architects had worked hard to keep.
Approach
I used a standard lens and photographed through doorways and openings, so every image holds two or three rooms at once. Shooting took place over two days to follow the sun across the facade.
Result
The series was used for the practice’s award submissions and website, and the doorway framing became the reference for their future project photography.
